Founded in 1969 by Richard Smolka, Plastic Age Products Inc. (PAP) opened on July 3, 1969 in St-Michel, Quebec with only a single home-made injection moulding machine and two employees. Noticing internal and external growth potential, current president Mark Smolka first become involved with the company in 1974, while current vice-president Adam Murawski joined Plastic Age in 1978.
By the late 1970s, Plastic Age was operating five (5) injection moulding machines and an extrusion division. In 1979, the Company acquired a 22,000 square foot building in Montreal (St-Leonard), pursuing operations there until the end of the 1980s.
In 1988, PAP erected a 60,000 square foot building in the emergent east-end sector of Montreal. The Company's headquarters and facilities have been located there ever since. Taking advantage of its new space, Plastic Age began producing bristles, using a special method for which it is now renowned.
Combining steady growth, new operations and services, and a ‘just-in-time’ mind-set, PAP completed a 62,000 square foot expansion in 2001. With the resulting total of 122,000 square feet of space and a state-of-the-art moulding facility, the Company was able to secure several additional customer accounts in various manufacturing sectors.
